Mo Sheppo, world’s coolest runner

I was just poking around looking for times on old races when I came across this report from a 2001 race in San Francisco.

Here’s the key paragraph:

Amanda Shepherd came up from Arizona to help Gary Smith.  After about 10 miles pacing along with Gary, we decided that she might want to be an official entrant, so we gave her a number and sent her on her way, and she got in a marathon for the day!

Just hanging out at the track, and she ran a marathon to kill some time. Some people will do anything to get out of having to crew. Harumph.

As a matter of fact, her distance was 26.3463 miles. Mo Sheppo, ultramathoner.

Such a good runner till the Big Red addiction took hold of her …

We muddled through another four on the track today. 13:48 average. Air is just stifling these days. Feeling like a long, ugly summer. San Francisco sounding pretty good …

Amazing! She was just a shepherd, tending her sheep, and she became an accidental ultramarathoner!
