going out with a bang

A huge blast rattled the apartment this morning, waking Mo with a jolt. Not me. The advantage of being deaf.

She lay there for a moment, wondering what it was. She assumed it must have been a massive refinery explosion, meaning that soon there would be toxic fumes drifting in our direction.

She sat up for a minute, wondering what to do. She decided that covering the windows would be our best hope for survival. But would we have enough towels to cover them all?

After doing the mental math, she decided that no, we were doomed. So she went back to sleep.

The upside: As it turns out, the boom was a  gas explosion at a home several miles away. A neighborhood was wiped out, but it was no danger to us.

The downside: If calamity actually arrives at our doorstep someday, we surely will die in our sleep. Because surviving would just be too much work.

At least they’ll say I died doing what I loved …

so. I didn’t wake up. I swear. I was in that weird state of no THATwasaDREAM… and WAIT?! WasTHATaDREAM? And then the wonderment… if it was real, surely there would be some indication we needed to do something like maybe seal the windows with our two meager orange creamsicle colored towels? Then my beloved small brain went… shrug…. and I happily went back to the REM sleep… yes I mean the band. we will definitely die happy. ok. whatever.
