a dreamsicle on a summer night
in a folding lawn chair
witches ring around the moon
Better get home soon

sometimes i think the world is in trouble, but then i spend a morning with these people.
it’s another day of pushing 100 degrees at the little county park. we’re sitting in the shade, cooling down after trail running and cycling and swatting bugs.
mo and gumbo look at each other in the quiet of the growing inferno. “wouldn’t a hot cup of coffee be great right now?” they agree in unison before plotting ways to tote an espresso machine to the trailhead. i’m thinking soon we could just place a pot of water on the sidewalk and watch it boil. we’re in a desert, people.
and then they laugh. and laugh some more. so. much. laughter. and i wonder how i got so lucky as to be on the same planet at the same time as these guys.
except maybe that coffee thing.
sometimes i think the world is in trouble, but then i spend a morning with these people.
and i’m more certain than ever.

Everyone should have a Mo and Gumbo in their lives…
Love you buddy
