I go out today on the old bay course. Because, um, I’ve been enjoying the new loop a lot, so it only makes sense that I abandon it. Yes, I have issues.

The bay left course is notorious because I have crashed on it several times. It has a lot of little rocks that are easy to catch a toe on. It’s the site of the first cracked rib debacle, and I always worry when I run it.

But today there are no woes. Mid-70s, sunny skies, happy miles, cooperative gulls. I get home, pleasantly tired, sweaty but pleased.

And then, walking from the parking lot to my apartment, I trip over a tree remnant sticking out of the ground and smack into the sidewalk. Yes, I actually make a “smack” sound. It is the opposite of feeing really good.

And that, my dear Alanis, is ironic. Don’t you think?
